We've reached peak mattress fatigue. Blame the paradox of choice or the fact that most of us are completely exhausted, but choosing the best mattress brand — and don't get us started on finding the best deals on bedding — is tiring (pun very much intended). Given the overwhelming number of mattress options now available, we decided to actually try out the most popular mattresses from the biggest zzz-inducing makers first-hand — by sleeping on them for a full 30 days to determine which were really the best of the snoozy bunch.
Whether your preference is to sleep organic, like the green Avocado mattresses, use a cooling mattress to help keep the summer heat at bay, or you’re a side, back, or stomach sleeper, the most important factor to look for when selecting the right mattress brand: one that keeps your spine aligned while applying supportive pressure evenly to your body (kind of like a hug). Ultimately, the best mattresses should allow us to sleep happily and soundly. The rest — like size, price, and material preference — is pretty variable. Each of the R29 testers ahead used their own unique set of parameters to evaluate the individual mattress they tested — everything including foam models, hybrid innerspring and padded, and even sustainably made mattresses.
Scroll on for our firsthand reviews of the best mattress brands you can buy online (some of which are still on sale from Memorial Day weekend!) — hopefully, it'll help you feel a little less restless when buying the bed of your (sweet) dreams.
